To report allegations of fraud or suspected wrong doing in Collier County government you may submit a complaint form with the Clerk's Internal Audit Department. You may also contact the Internal Audit Department as outlined below.

 

Internal audit on the legality of transactions to ensure county assets are safeguarded and that they comply with laws, ordinances and policies. Also, audits ensure that expenditures are properly authorized and all financial information, as reported, is accurate and reliable.

Florida Statute 119 is one of the most far reaching open records laws of any state in the nation.  

 

If you want to remain anonymous, do not provide any personal information when you file a complaint.

 

Also, please be aware that under Florida law, email addresses are public records. If you do not want your email address released in response to a public records request, do not file your complaint by electronic mail.

 

While complaints may be received anonymously; internal audit can only provide you with information or request additional information if you include your contact information.

 

The initial steps in the internal audit process include a preliminary review of allegations to determine the probability that alleged acts could have occurred.

 

Referrals are made to the appropriate law enforcement agency or State Attorney’s office when evidence suggests that a criminal activity that could warrant an investigation is occurring, or may have occurred.

 
Whistle-Blower's Act - Public Employees:

 

If you would like to report allegations of fraud or wrong doing on the part of a public employee or independent contractor who is under contract with Collier County and you are a county employee, former county employee or applicant for county employment, you may qualify for protection including confidentiality of your name and identity in accordance with Florida Statute 112 Sections 3187 - 31895.


 

Whistle Blower Act – Private Employees:

 

If you would like to report allegations of fraud or wrong doing on the part of a private firm or independent contractor under contract with Collier County you may qualify for protections in accordance with Florida Statute 448 Sections 101 – 105.

If you report fraud or wrongdoing, you must provide sufficient information and details to facilitate an investigation.
