Marriage Licenses & Ceremonies

The Clerk’s office issues marriage licenses and performs ceremonies at all of our office locations as well as online from this website.

  • Marriage licenses are valid in any Florida county for 60 days from the date of issue.
  • Per Florida Statute 741.04(5), there is a 3-day waiting period for any Florida resident to marry (after the license issue date), unless both applicants have completed a premarital course with an approved provider and present a certificate of completion at the time of application.

Requirements:

  • Age: Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Applicants who are 17 years old, please contact our office for more information.
  • Identification: Applicants must provide a Driver’s License, State ID, Military ID, or Passport.
  • U.S. Citizens: must provide their Social Security Numbers.
  • Non U.S. Citizens: may provide a Social Security Number, Alien Registration Number, or any other identifying number.
  • Biological Parents of Common Child(ren) born in Florida: If applicable, an Affirmation of Common Children Form must be completed during the application process and attested by a clerk or prepared and notarized in advance and submitted at the time of application.
  • Payment: Online services must be paid by Card. In person services may be paid with Cash, Card, Check, or Money Order made payable to the Clerk of Court
  • Family Law Handbook: Prior to receiving a license, couples must read the Family Law Handbook (English) or the Family Law Handbook (Spanish) which outlines the Rights and Responsibilities of parties to a Marriage.
  • Appear: Applicants must be present at the same time.

Additional Requirements for online services:

  • Online Ceremony: Ceremonies are only available for marriage licenses issued online from Collier County.
  • Appointments: Appointments are required for online services and will be 30 minutes long. Appointments will be requested by the applicants during the application process and must be made in the future. Same day services are not available online.
  • Technology: Applicants must have access to an email account on the device(s) used for their video call(s). Prior to having your Microsoft Teams video call, verify that your device(s) has video and audio capabilities.
  • Location: Applicants must be present in the State of Florida during the marriage ceremony. The couple will have to attest to this fact during the video call.

Recording the License after the Marriage Ceremony

After the marriage ceremony, applicants are responsible to return the license to the issuing county within 10 days (online ceremonies are processed automatically).

Upon receipt of a completed marriage license, the clerk will record it in the Official Records and issue a certified copy. Additional certified copies may be purchased for $3.00 each.
